Your Emotions can Make or Break a Hunt

Managing your emotions and regulating your body is very important everyday life and can be a beneficial tool when you are in the woods hunting. It is crucial to minimize mistakes and have iron clad focus while you are in the woods. Whether siting in your stand, stalking, or getting ready to deliver the kill shot, an individual can feel a wide range of emotions during a hunt and understanding how to utilize those emotions and regulate them can be a key to success.

Keeping or bringing your body in alignment or balance has been proven to increase mental clarity and focus allowing you to think more clearly. It allows for an improved sense of awareness, and mental processing. This happens by bringing your mind, breathing, and heart rate all on the same wave length or in a state of coherence. Achieving this state takes a lot of practice to utilize because you are flooded with anxiety, excitement, or other emotions that you may experience during your hunt.

When you see that mature buck step out from the brush or hear something crashing through the woods towards you, what does your body do?

For most, your heart rate starts to increase, your breathing gets more rapid, and your mind starts to race with excitement. Knowing how to make sure that all these things are happening in sync with one another is how you can optimize your opportunity and prevent mistakes due to an impaired focus from your body working itself up.

How to Manage your State

First, focus on your breathing by taking nice slow paced breathes. This will give you something to focus on and calm those racing thoughts. After you have slowed your breathing, think about something positive, like the joy or the sense of fulfillment you received from a previous hunt. These thoughts will help to control your heart rate by sending a more controlled rhythm throughout your body.

Once you’re able to line these elements up your body and mind will be able to work past that overwhelming feeling that most feel in those last moments of a hunt. Although it is an exciting time and the emotions we feel are not negative they can cause us to make mistakes if they are not kept in check.

After you master theses skills of putting your body in a more coherent state you will find more success and become a more efficient hunter or huntress. Give these methods a try, and see how they work for you. Cro-Mag Outdoors relies on state control to provide an additional advantage when pursuing public land whitetails.
